Art Enrichment Classes
For Children & Youth

ArtEsteem classes support tangible artistic and intellectual learning, creativity, and expression as well as develop self awareness, critical thinking, and social skills. A gallery of student artwork can be seen on our website.

ArtEsteem Art Instructors guide students through creating art while the children/youth explore, define, and refine themselves. Our staff adhere to solid theoretical and procedural underpinnings in their lessons. In-school and after-school Art Instructors follow a standardized curriculum that combines Attitudinal Healing concepts, art instruction, and classroom-management tools in a format that is linked to the State of California Academic Content Standards.

Children and youth are invited to self reflect, discover, and imagine while developing aesthetic skills/techniques in drawing, painting, printmaking, bookmaking, and more. Students learn, through art, how to explore the self and create imaginary and real replicas of themselves and their surrounding community. ArtEsteem’s Self As Super Hero curriculum leads participants through a process of visualizing, designing, and creating Super Heroes and then writing descriptions of their characters’ positive superpowers. The school year ends with the annual ArtEsteem public art exhibition and sale.
Students learn African rhythms, songs, movement, and drumming techniques in a multicultural and language-rich environment. Using a curriculum that teaches music skills along with emotional literacy, our methods improve listening skills, hand-eye coordination, and counting abilities as well as help participants promote balance and control within themselves. The school year ends with a drumming performance for the public at the annual ArtEsteem art exhibit.
Students have the opportunity to design their own garments and fashion accessories through practicing elementary hand-stitching and fabric-dyeing methods, designing patterns for their fabrics, and learning to operate a basic sewing machine. The school year ends with a fashion show for the public at the annual ArtEsteem art exhibit.

ArtEsteem School Assemblies

Rhythm, sound, and storytelling from Africa to educate and entertain students/staff. Lots of hands-on audience participation, e.g. playing djembe drums onstage with the presenter.

Youth Development and Mentoring

Former ArtEsteem students work as paid Youth Assistants and gain experience in various art fields, learn office skills, and receive support developing life skills and preparing for college.
