WOMS Living: Home Goods Collection

Lead Teaching Artist Etty Alberto led West Oakland Middle School 6th graders through a nature textile unit during the 2022-23 school year, exploring natural patterns, color palettes, and composition.

Volunteer Julia Gamble shared her expertise in surface pattern design, product development, and visual merchandising as they created relief prints, texture prints, watercolors, and silkscreen prints. The students learned about creating icons and patterns with a cohesive color palette, and how to apply that pattern to a variety of three-dimensional home products.

Etty guided students in creating cyanotypes, radials composed of leaf relief prints, leaf collages using a cohesive color palette, and watercolor and pastel paintings created with abstract patterns. With various materials, students have displayed what a harmonious body of work looks like in both their creations and their collaborative merchandized collection.

The result is a merchandised collection of home goods

products under the brand created by the students: WOMS Living.
